Why did you choose to volunteer at Bread for Life?
I believe in the BFL mission. God has blessed me in so many ways – this is my way of saying thank you!
What has been the best part of your volunteer experience?
The people – both those who serve and those who are served. I’ve witnessed many acts of kindness and seen the gratitude from those who received them.
What is your favorite memory from volunteering at Bread for Life?
Rather than a specific memory, I enjoy the positive, welcoming atmosphere whenever I enter the facility – and then, there is Missy’s laugh!
How has volunteering impacted your life?
From the time I was a small child, I was taught that we are all made in the image and likeness of God, worthy of dignity and respect. Volunteering is a natural outgrowth of that truth and a way for me to reinforce this teaching by honoring the dignity of each person I encounter.
What would you say to someone who is thinking about volunteering?
To borrow a phrase, just do it! To my fellow retirees, you have a lifetime of experience and accumulated gifts and talents that don’t expire. Share them and bring joy to another’s life!
