Why did you choose to volunteer at Bread for Life?
My wife and I moved to the Southington area in 2021. During my travels around town I would often see the Bread For Life (“BFL”) vehicles. I was curious about the organization, so I did some research and realized that BFL offers so many wonderful services to our local community. I decided this was an organization that I would definitely want to be involved with.

What is your favorite memory from volunteering at Bread for Life?
One day I was doing home bound meal deliveries. I knocked on the client’s door and waited awhile but received no response so I left the meal on his porch. As I made my way back towards the vehicle he called out to me and came outside. He told me how much he appreciates all that we do for him – not just the meals we provide, but greeting him with a smile and always asking how he’s doing.

How has volunteering impacted your life?
Volunteering has positively impacted my life in so many ways. I‘ve had so much good fortune in my life so it’s tremendously gratifying to “give back” to others who are less fortunate. I also firmly believe that volunteering boosts one’s mental and physical health. It’s also expanded my social connections through all of the great folks at BFL.

What would you say to someone who is thinking about volunteering?
Don’t hesitate to volunteer at an organization you feel passionate about. Your life will improve in so many ways. I believe it was Gandhi who said “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service to others”.
