Why did you choose to volunteer at Bread for Life?
It only felt natural. Once I met Missy and the BFL staff & community members when we first began clinics on site, it felt like family. So to be able to give back to the community I live in was a no brainer for me.
What has been the best part of your volunteer experience?
The personal connections I have made with everyone – staff, board members, volunteers, but most importantly the community members.
What is your favorite memory from volunteering at Bread for Life?
My favorite is our wreath making during the holiday season. The smiles and laughs are priceless.
How has volunteering impacted your life?
This type of “work” is what I do as a career. But it somehow means more when it’s my own community. It has become something that means a lot to me and I’ve gotten daughter involved. She chose to make snack bags and hygiene kits for BFL as her birthday craft in school. An idea she came up with on her own because she sees the value in people helping people, especially in her own town.
What would you say to someone who is thinking about volunteering?
Stop thinking and just do it. You won’t regret it.
